Limey! When Limes Became A War Weapon

20.09.20 /

Fun Fact: Did you know that the slang “Limey” which is sometimes used to refer to the British is actually derived from lime fruit? In 1757, the Scottish surgeon James Lind conducted the world’s first clinical trial on how #limejuice prevented scurvy — a common disease that plagued sailors during long journeys at sea. This prompted the British Royal Navy to start rationing limes to their sailors. They became one of the healthiest fleets, making the use of lime for scurvy prevention one of the most guarded military secrets of that time! Today, there’s no secret how much the culinary world loves lime! To experience lime like never before, check out #DriedLime from #saffronandmore. It’s a staple in Persian pantries and it should be in yours too! Discover more about Saffron and More Dried Lime here.
